Mercury Air Cargo Continues to Grow in Limited Space

Even with the challenges of limited space for cargo handling and warehouse services, Mercury Air Cargo continues it steady growth, both in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

John Peery, President & Chief Operating Officer of Mercury Air Cargo, provides the example of the opening of a 25,000 square foot facility at 5600 West Century Blvd., Los Angeles.

He states “while this facility is on the smallish side, it fills a need as we’ve lost air cargo space to additional passenger services improvements. We are continually looking for ways to increase space. It’s an oxymoron – we are as big as we are with volume but small with space.”

Mercury Air Cargo secured this additional space on LAX after   Los Angeles World Airports issued an RFP (request for proposal) for this facility.  Mercury was the successful bidder resulting in a fifth handling facility on LAX.

Peery points out, “Alaska Air, WestJet, and Cargolux are current tenants in this facility that we will be leasing, providing the possibility of these carriers working with Mercury Air Cargo.”

Volume of air cargo in Los Angeles is rapidly growing with 19 new carriers entering the market over the past 2 years, and a large amount of that volume is handled by Mercury Air Cargo.

“I’m very proud that we process more than 23% of all air cargo volume at LAX,” says Peery.

Mercury Air Cargo is also in the midst of securing new business with airlines: Air Italy, flying into both LAX and SFO from Milan four times per week and Finnair who will be flying in from Helsinki three times per week.  Peery is also working with other aviation companies and attempting to squeeze them into our existing shrinking facilities at LAX or SFO.
