Mercury Air Cargo Lands Air New Zealand at LAX

Los Angeles, CA (October 12, 2010): Mercury Air Cargo, the largest third-party air cargo handler at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has recently landed Air New Zealand as a new cargo handling customer at its 200,000 square foot on-airport 6040 Avion Drive cargo warehouse.

"We are extremely pleased to have attracted such a respected international carrier like Air New Zealand to our family of cargo handling customers," said John Peery, Vice President of Cargo Operations for Mercury Air Cargo, Inc.

Air New Zealand operates 777 and 747 passenger aircraft into LAX, utilizing the aircraft's cargo capacity to move produce and dry goods between LAX, South Pacific, and the United Kingdom. Air New Zealand has over 20 flights per week from LAX.

"We chose Mercury because we liked their flexibility, we knew their senior management and Mercury's commitment to serving our customers was important. They also have the best chiller on the airport," said Sal Sanfilippo, Regional Manager of the Americas for Air New Zealand.

In April 2009, Mercury opened a 12,700-square-foot refrigeration facility and perishable center at LAX-- the largest on any West Coast airport. The $1.1-million refrigeration unit was officially opened at a news conference headlined by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who called the new refrigeration unit good for business and good for the environment.

"Our location at Mercury Air Cargo, with dedicated dock space, and the reuniting of the sales team with our customer service and operations offices allows us to better address our customers' needs. The facility is a good fit and Mercury has demonstrated the customer first service philosophy we value" said Kevin Murchan, Operation Manager of the Americas for Air New Zealand.
